Note: I no longer live in Joplin, but I maintain these for convenience only. This page lists some frequencies for some Jasper County towns. For the Joplin trunked system, information may be found here.
The County 911 system dispatches calls for many of the small towns. Click here for a listing of town/district numbering. Rural fire dispatching is divided into three sectors: east, central, and west. Central is the Carthage Fire Department, who happens to have its own EMS district. East and West Fire Departments use the same frequency. The 911 Center will probably add additional frequencies as warranted by call volume. For even more frequencies, visit the Jasper County frequency listing at radioreference.com. The Point to Point and County General frequencies is used between local and state agencies. For example, a state trooper may request an ambulance on I-44 near Main Street. This would be Joplin METS, but the highway patrol cannot directly communicate with EMS units. The state dispatcher would contact the METS dispatcher and relay the trooper's request. Likewise, paramedics may arrive at a rural traffic accident and need the police to maintain traffic control; the EMS dispatcher would be able to request assistance from law enforcement. Note: METS Ambulance Service is on the Joplin trunked system, but the dispatch call is multicasted on the county fire frequency. Both Freeman and St. Johns' hospitals have VHF licenses, yet communications are patched from VHF to 800 and vice versa. Contrary to local popular belief, both the Joplin and County 911 centers assist the other when calls overflow the other system. Send comments to jalexand@alumni.ou.edu. |
