Scanning is a great hobby. It enables you to know the news as it happens and get a feel for your town (e.g., crime spots, accident prone intersections, etc.). I use a PRO-92 trunktracking scanner for both conventional and trunked systems. I also have a Bearcat BC-170 (basic VHF/UHF) scanner that I was first given to me by my father. I limit my scanning to public safety agencies, but that is only a small part of the hobby. Tom Sevart, N2UHC, has information about monitoring other transmissions.
